Marvin Howard |1929-2021|

Raeburn M. “Marvin” Howard, 92, died October 26, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  He was born April 22, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Raeburn McKinley and Jessie E. (McElwain) Howard. 

Marvin grew up on the family farm east of Burrton, attended Page School-District 08 and graduated from Burrton High School.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Marvin retired from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center after more than 25 years as a maintenance engineer.  Prior to that, he worked at Detroiter MH and in the Great Bend area oil fields as a roughneck in the 50’s & 60’s.  He enjoyed “hobby” farming, researching and monitoring investments, artistic painting, creating decorative metal art, working on family home improvements, and attending grandchildren’s activities.

On March 18, 1956, he married Annetta Marie Unruh at First Mennonite Church in Halstead.  She died May 1, 2019, after sharing 63 years of marriage.

Marvin is survived by:  children, Susan Stroberg (David) of Hutchinson, Steven Howard (Vicki) of Halstead, David Howard (Debbie) of Hutchinson, and Kathy Dey (Mike) of Overland Park; grandchildren, Andrea Kitch (Scott) and their children, Kinley and Kasen, Scott Stroberg (Gretchen) and their children, Lewis, Sylvia, and Hank, Amy Rine (Cody), Aaron Howard (Taryn), Kyle Howard (Malika), Shelby Kaufman (Tyler), Andrew Howard, Ross Howard (Liz), and their child, due January 2022, Jack Howard, Elyse Howard, Owen Dey, and Miles Dey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two very special aunts, Inez Howard and Lulu Saylor.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2021, at Burrton Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Following the service, friends and family are invited to the Burrton City Hall, 201 N Burrton Avenue for a light lunch and fellowship.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, with no family present.
