HESSTON, Kan. — The Smoky Valley Vikings claimed the Central Kansas League boys tennis title on Monday at Hesston High School and Hesston College.
The Vikings were followed by Hesston in 2nd place and Hoisington in 3rd place. Haven finished 4th, Larned 5th, Pratt 6th, Hillsboro 7th and Nickerson 8th.
Smoky Valley edged Hesston by three points, 63-60 to claim the league crown.
No. 1 Singles
Smoky Valley's Zeke Baker claimed the No. 1 singles title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hoisington's Jasper Pawloski in the finals.
Baker defeated Hesston's Janmejay Patwardhan in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2. Patwardhan finished 3rd with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over Haven's Devin Boyce.
No. 2 Singles
Hoisington's Brody Rossman claimed the No. 2 singles title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hesston's Tim van Bergeijk.
Rossman defeated Haven's Brennan Williams, 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals. Williams lost to Smoky Valley's Isaac Ayala in the 3rd place match, 7-5, 6-0.
No. 1 Doubles
Hesston's doubles team of Duetschendorf/Liechty cruised their way through the bracket to claim the No. 1 doubles title over Smoky Valley's Beiker/Keller, 6-1, 6-1.
Hoisington's Mooney/Palowski finished 3rd, defeating Haven's Jaques/Rinhart, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
No. 2 Doubles
Smoky Valley's duo of Baker/Elliot beat Hesston's Hiebert/Gomez, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles finals.
Haven's Pierson/Miller beat Hoisington's Delong/Mooney for 3rd place.
