Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the southwest corner of East Avenue B and South Poplar.
Emerson Carey was unquestionably Hutchinson's biggest supporter and most successful celebrity. He was a business magnate, land baron, state senator, and entrepreneur.
At the height of his success, he built a large office building at 121 E. Ave. B for the Carey Industries in 1916. The first photo shows that building in 1920.

The second photo shows the inside second floor, showing some of the clerical staff, as well as Emerson's office in the background in 1920.

The third photo shows the Carey Salt facility at 1800 E. Carey Blvd. in 1930 with the office building as an inset.

After Emerson's death, the office building was given to the city, used as City Hall and also used in the early days of TECH. The fourth photo shows the city executive offices in the building in 1963 with city clerk Milt Martin in the center.

In 2004, Brian Davis and Anne Lauer purchased the building and did a magnificent job of converting the upper floor into their home. The fifth photo shows that perspective.

The bottom floor houses the Rebeca Sandoval "Complete Circle Counseling" business. The sixth photo shows the building today, now addressed as 127 E. Ave. B and now owned by the Complete Circle Counseling & Coaching P.A. by Rebeca Sandoval.
