DERBY, Kan. — The Derby Panthers ran all over the Hutchinson Salthawks in a 55-13 win in Hutchinson's first road game of the season on Friday at Panther Stadium.
Derby scored on its first five possessions of the game, taking a 35-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Panthers scored touchdowns of 21, 26, 56, 40 and 15 yards.
The Salthawks got on the board with a record-breaking touchdown reception by senior wide receiver Lamar Govain. Junior quarterback Davin Morgan floated a perfect pass down the sideline, and Govain ran under it and scored Hutchinson's first touchdown of the game.
It was Govain's fourth touchdown of the season and his 13th career receiving touchdown, which is the most in Hutchinson High School history.
The Derby Panthers then scored two more touchdowns, including a 1-yard rushing touchdown as the clock expired to end the first half. Derby led 49-6 at halftime.
In the second half, Hutchinson senior running back Brodie McCuan scored on a 44-yard touchdown run to make it 49-13.
Derby then scored on a 71-yard touchdown run and went on to win 55-13 over the Salthawks.
Hutchinson falls to 0-2 on the season, while Derby improves to 2-0.
Hutchinson will host the Salina South Cougars (1-1) at Gowans Stadium next Friday night.
