HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army in Hutchinson is asking the community for additional donations of children's coats ahead of its annual coat distribution this weekend.

Major Paul James said the organization partners each year with Ineeda Cleaners to collect coats for children and families in need. While the campaign typically receives a large number of adult coats and a good supply of children's sizes, donations of smaller coats have fallen short this year.

James said the greatest needs are coats for toddler boys and girls, along with girls' coats in sizes 6 through 16.

Residents with new or gently used coats in those sizes are encouraged to drop them off at The Salvation Army, 700 N. Walnut St., by 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.

The Salvation Army's office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual coat distribution will take place Friday and Saturday, with designated times for seniors and the general public.

Coat distribution schedule:

-Friday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to noon: Seniors

-Friday, Nov. 6, 4 to 7 p.m.: All ages

-Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to noon: All ages

The distribution is part of the organization's annual effort to help Reno County residents prepare for colder weather.

James encourages community members to check their closets for coats their children may have outgrown and consider donating them before Friday's deadline.
