SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After implementing a hiring freeze due to the pandemic, Kansas State University has had a change of heart and will allow the Reno County Extension Service to find a new Extension Agent.

The extension service has been without an agent since Darren Busick left the position in February. Not long after Busick left, the university said that they were implementing a hiring freeze until June of 2021. Since then the agency has also lost its Family and Consumer Sciences Director and its 4-H director. Neither of those positions will be replaced before the June 2021 date.

The Extension office says they had 17 applications for the position and have narrowed it down to two  finalists, who will be interviewed on Monday. The new agent could be in place by the middle of December if all goes as planned.
