Pratt County officials say they remain committed to preserving healthcare services at Pratt Regional Medical Center as the hospital works through significant financial challenges, including expected workforce reductions and a change in leadership.
In a statement released Thursday, the Pratt County Commission said it has partnered with Pratt Regional Medical Center to stabilize the hospital's finances and strengthen long-term operations. County officials said residents have called for greater transparency, experienced leadership and meaningful action to address the hospital's financial condition.
As part of that effort, Pratt County approved funding to retain Beeler Consulting, LLC, a healthcare advisory and turnaround firm specializing in rural hospitals. The consulting team began work during the first week of July and is assisting hospital leadership with financial oversight, revenue cycle improvements, operational evaluations and long-term planning.
According to the county, immediate priorities include improving cash flow and collections, strengthening financial processes, maintaining essential hospital services, supporting physicians and staff, and increasing leadership accountability.
Officials said the consulting engagement has already produced more consistent financial reporting, identified potential cost-saving opportunities and recommended operational changes aimed at improving efficiency and moving the hospital toward financial stability.
Among the most significant changes expected is a workforce reduction.
County commissioners acknowledged the impact those layoffs will have on employees and their families, describing the affected workers as neighbors, friends and valued members of the community. They encouraged local businesses to consider hiring displaced employees whenever possible.
The commission said the reductions, while difficult, are intended to reduce ongoing financial losses and help preserve local healthcare services. Officials warned that failing to act could place the hospital's future and access to healthcare at even greater risk.
The county also announced that Pratt Regional Medical Center CEO Tammy Smith has resigned.
Commissioners thanked Smith for her service during a challenging period and said Beeler Consulting is assisting the hospital's board of directors in searching for a new chief executive to guide the next phase of the stabilization effort.
Pratt County said leadership decisions will continue to be made by the hospital's board in coordination with Beeler Consulting, while the county remains committed to supporting the search for qualified leadership.
County officials expressed confidence in the consulting team, which includes rural hospital leaders, financial professionals, physicians and operational experts.
The commission said it will continue providing oversight of public funds invested in the stabilization effort while working with the hospital's board, trustees, physicians and employees to maintain access to healthcare for Pratt County residents and the surrounding region.
