The City of Hutchinson is taking precautionary measures to manage expected increases in water flowing into the area from the north.

City officials announced they will close control structures to divert water away from Cow Creek and route it around the city in anticipation of higher water levels.

As the diversion operations begin, residents may notice lower-than-normal water levels in waterways throughout Hutchinson. City officials said this is an expected result of redirecting water around the community and should not cause any additional impacts.

The precautionary action is intended to help manage water flows while protecting the city as runoff continues to move south.

City staff will continue monitoring conditions and will make adjustments to the water control system as needed based on changing conditions.
