LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore pitcher Dominic Voegele received a spot on the Preseason All-America Second Team from D1Baseball on Tuesday. Voegele is the first Jayhawk in program history to be named to a preseason All-America team selected by D1Baseball.
The Big 12 Freshman of the Year returns this season after finishing his 2024 rookie campaign with a 7-2 record and a 3.89 ERA in 15 starts. Voegele recorded 80 strikeouts compared to only 29 walks in 81.0 innings pitched last season. His 80 strikeouts were the most by a freshman in program history and his 15 starts tied the most by a freshman in school history.
Voegele tossed eight quality starts and his seven wins were the most by a KU freshman pitcher since 1993. The Columbia, Illinois, native allowed three earned runs or less in 12 of his 15 starts. His seven wins were tied for the second most in the country among Power Five freshmen and his 3.89 ERA was third lowest in the nation among Power Five freshmen.
This month, Voegele was already named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Perfect Game. In addition to his Big Freshman of the Year honor in 2024, Voegele also was selected as a freshman All-American by four different outlets, an All-Big 12 Second Team member, a Big 12 All-Freshman Team honoree and earned a roster spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Voegele is only the second Jayhawk in program history to receive a preseason All-America selection from two different publications, joining Tony Thompson in 2010.
