USD 308 Board of Education to meet Monday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 Board of Education will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the District Administration Center.

The board will hear a presentation on bus wraps by Durham School Services.

Action Items

Deputy Superintendent Krystal Young will present the proposed 2025-26 district calendar. The calendar outlines:

  1. The first day of school for students in first through ninth grades will be Wednesday, Aug. 13.
  2. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors will begin classes the next day.
  3. Kindergarten students will start on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
  4. Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Nov. 28.
  5. Winter break will run from Tuesday, Dec. 23, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. Classes will resume Wednesday, Jan. 7, following teacher workdays on Jan. 5-6.
  6. The last day of school will be a half day on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
  7. Hutchinson High School commencement is set for Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The board will also consider the job description for the Financial Operations Specialist position. This role will oversee and manage business operations and financial records for the district while ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, and best practices. The position will be based in the business office and report to the director of financial management.

Facilities and Construction Bids

The board will review a bid from Wray and Sons Roofing to replace a section of roofing at Hutchinson High School. The section, located above the music records room, was last replaced in the late 1990s and has experienced numerous leaks.

  1. Wray and Sons Roofing bid: $56,508.76 (10-year warranty).
  2. Wray Roofing of North Newton bid: $67,880 (20-year warranty).

According to agenda documents, the difference in price is due to the length of the warranty.
