Efficiency Meets Versatility: The Cheyenne Condensing Boiler

Since its introduction into the market in 2022, Superior Boiler’s Cheyenne series has quickly become an industry favorite with its ability to meet the diverse needs of facilities ranging from hospitals to schools. Available in capacities up to 12.0 MBTU/hour, it has the largest condensing boiler capacity available on the market. Its popularity underscores the demand for high-capacity systems that deliver exceptional energy performance.

A defining feature of the Cheyenne is its true dual-fuel capability, which allows seamless transitions between natural gas and alternatives like #2 oil, propane or hydrogen. Of the units sold, more than 80% operate on dual fuel. This adaptability provides energy security and cost management in an ever-changing fuel market, making it an ideal choice for organizations that prioritize resilience and sustainability.

To meet environmental demands, some Cheyenne packages maintain NOx emissions as low as 30 ppm with dual-fuel gas/oil burners. A separate gas-only package achieves ultra-low emissions below 9 ppm on all sizes. With the new burner innovation in partnership with Weishaupt, the smaller Cheyenne units are available with sub-7 ppm NOx emissions with a dual-fuel gas/oil burner. These capabilities help facilities comply with stringent regulations while optimizing energy efficiency.

Weishaupt ULN Burner: Pushing Emissions Reduction Further

Now available for Cheyenne boilers up to 7.0 MMBTU/hour, the innovative Weishaupt ULN burner adds cutting-edge emissions technology, achieving sub-7ppm NOx on natural gas without requiring Flue Gas Recirculation (FGR).  Utilizing advanced, staged combustion technology, the burner ensures stable, efficient performance across operating conditions.

Key advantages of the ULN burner include:

•             Sub-7 ppm NOx on natural gas and 90ppm NOx on #2 oil

•             Dual-fuel capability with #2 oil or as gas-only

•             High turndown ratios for greater operational flexibility (6:1 on natural gas and 4:1 on #2 oil)

•             FGR available for operating at lower O₂ levels with a higher turndown

•             Stable combustion, eliminating risks of flashbacks or vibration

•             Built-in flame monitoring with advanced safety features, including a self-check UV scanner and ionization electrode

•             Serviceability equivalent to other Weishaupt burner models

•             Familiar burner controls matching other Weishaupt burner models

“Weishaupt ULN technology was designed to meet the strict emissions standards of the North American market,” said Weishaupt North America President & CEO Hikmet Demiryol. “Our focus is on providing reliable, sustainable solutions for the most demanding applications.”

Testing is underway to expand the use of the ULN burner to all Cheyenne size offerings, anticipated to be available in 2026.

Shaping the Future of Sustainable Heating

Together, the Cheyenne boiler and ULN burner deliver unmatched performance for industries looking to balance operational efficiency with environmental stewardship. These systems provide the flexibility, reliability and emissions reductions modern facilities require, making them a preferred choice for organizations focused on sustainability and cost effectiveness.

“The response to the Cheyenne boiler and Weishaupt boiler package has been tremendous,” said Superior Boiler President & CEO Doug Wright. “The combination of high efficiency, large capacity and dual-fuel capability aligns perfectly with what today’s industries need. By pairing the Cheyenne with Weishaupt’s advanced ULN burner, we’re delivering a solution that helps customers meet their sustainability goals without compromising performance or reliability.”
