
HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat the Haysville Aviators, 10-8 on Monday night, and take the series two games to one.
Will Edmunson led off the Monarchs ninth with a single and was one of 11 Hutchinson (13-14) batters to come to the plate in the inning. Brett Black pulled the Monarchs within one when he doubled home two runs to get within 8-7. Paris Pridgen then reached on an error that scored a run to tie the game at eight. Cal York and Hogan Shelby each drove in a run with RBI singles.
After Haysville (13-16) took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, the Monarchs tied the game with three of their own in the fifth. Edmunson delivered with a single to pull within 3-1, and then Jaden Gustafson tied the game with a two-run triple.
The Monarchs scored one more in the sixth on an error to grab a 4-3 lead. The Aviators responded with three in the bottom half to go back in front, 6-4.
Edmunson led the Monarchs with a 4-for-6 night at the plate, while Gustafson and York each had a two-hit night. Gustafson and Black had a two RBI game. The Monarchs out-hit the Aviators, 12-6, while both teams had 10+ strikeouts (Hutchinson 14, Haysville 11).
Jarrett Flaggert went an inning of relief in the eighth to earn the win on the mound, while Carson Cornelius earned the ninth inning save.
The Monarchs are off on Tuesday before returning to Hobart-Detter to begin a three-game series with the Kansas Cannons on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
