The Hutchinson Fire Department battled a house fire in the 500 block of East First Street Monday morning.
HFD said that they were dispatched shortly before 4:30 a.m. to the residence.
When they arrived, they found a two-story dwelling with heavy smoke coming from the attic area. Crews made way to the second floor and began pulling ceiling and made fire attack to the attic where they encountered approximately 10 feet of flames.

The residents were outside when firefighters arrived, and the engine company rescued two dogs from the first floor and returned them to their owners.
