HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Bretz Injury Law will host its seventh annual Veterans Memorial Poker Run Saturday to raise money for the Reno County Veterans Memorial.
Casey Esnz of Bretz Injury Law said the memorial is important to many Reno County families because it honors local veterans. Proceeds will support improvements and ongoing maintenance.
Matt Bretz said maintaining the memorial can be costly. New panels are added as more veterans are recognized, while the American and military flags must be replaced regularly because of Kansas weather.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Salty Cycles, 129 E. Sherman St. in Hutchinson. Participants will depart at 10:30 a.m. and must return by 2 p.m.
The route includes stops at Shane Love Insurance in Arlington, Bobz Bikz in Kingman, Shep Chevrolet in Haven and the Reno County Veterans Memorial before finishing at Bretz Injury Law.
Registration costs $25 for one poker hand or $50 for three hands. Prizes will be awarded for the best, second-best and worst hands. A complimentary lunch, raffle and door prizes will also be offered.
The event is not limited to motorcycles. Esnz said participants may complete the route in any street-legal vehicle.
The Reno County Veterans Association and several area businesses are helping with the event. Guardians of the Children volunteers will also staff stops and assist with lunch and cleanup.
Bretz said the poker run combines his passion for motorcycles with the law firm’s commitment to supporting the community.
“Motorcyclists give back to the community,” Bretz said. “They show up and they give, and it’s really an honor to be part of that community.”
