Bobrovsky makes 32 saves as the Panthers shut out the Oilers 3-0 in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Sergei Bobrovsky backstopped the Florida Panthers to a 3-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. The goalie everyone simply calls "Bob" made 32 saves for his second shutout of this postseason and third in the playoffs in his stellar 14-year NHL career. Bobrovsky is the biggest reason Florida has a lead of any kind in the final for the first time in franchise history. Carter Verhaeghe and Evan Rodrigues supplied the offense by scoring on two of the Panthers' first five shots. Reigning MVP Connor McDavid and the Oilers dominated at times but could not crack Bobrovsky.

Mavericks' plan to stop Celtics in NBA Finals: Get them to fight among themselves

BOSTON (AP) — Jason Kidd couldn't figure out how to stop the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Now he's hoping they will get in their own way. The Mavericks coach seemed eager to sow dissension in the Boston locker room on Saturday when he singled out Jaylen Brown as the Celtics' best player. The comments were transparently designed to irk Jayson Tatum, an actual NBA first-teamer who was sixth in the voting for the league's MVP. Tatum said it won't work. And on that Brown agrees. The Boston Big Two say they are happy to share the ball if it leads them to an NBA title.

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will meet in the French Open men's final

PARIS (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will both be seeking a first French Open championship when they play each other in the men's final at Court Philippe Chatrier. Alcaraz heads into Sunday's match on the red clay with two Grand Slam trophies already. He won the U.S. Open on hard courts in 2022 and Wimbledon on grass last year. The 21-year-old from Spain can become the youngest man to claim a major title on all three surfaces. Zverev is a 27-year-old from Germany who is trying to win his first Slam title. He was the runner-up at the 2020 U.S. Open and bowed out in the semifinals in Paris each of the past three years.

Dornoch pulls off an upset to win the first Belmont Stakes run at Saratoga Race Course at 17-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Dornoch has won the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. His victory made it the sixth consecutive year a different horse won each of the three Triple Crown races. Dornoch was the best in a field of 10 that included Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan and Preakness winner Seize the Grey. Despite there not being a Triple Crown on the line, it's a historic Belmont because the race was run at Saratoga for the first time in the venue's 161-year history.

Scheffler builds a 4-shot lead at Memorial even with a triple bogey

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Scottie Scheffler had a four-shot lead going into the final round of the Memorial. He stretched his lead after hitting a bunker shot into a creek, a tee shot out-of-bounds for triple bogey and a three-putt bogey on his last hole. Muirfield Village was tough for everyone. Scheffler managed a 71 and leads by four shots over Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin. Morikawa had a clean card for a 68. Hadwin made his biggest mistakes on the same hole and squeezed out a 72. Scheffler is going for his fifth win of the year going into the U.S. Open.

Teoscar Hernández powers Dodgers to 11-3 win over Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) — Teoscar Hernández homered twice and drove in six runs, including a grand slam that helped power the Los Angeles Dodgers past the New York Yankees 11-3 for their second consecutive victory in this marquee matchup. Kiké Hernández also went deep and Shohei Ohtani had an RBI single to back rookie Gavin Stone, who has won three straight starts and five of his last six. After handing New York just its third series loss of the season, the Dodgers will go for a three-game sweep Sunday night. Aaron Judge hit two homers for the Yankees, giving him a major league-high 23, but they've managed only four runs in 23 innings at the plate since slugger Juan Soto exited Thursday night's win over Minnesota with a forearm injury.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gives 3B Kiké Hernández a pass on fielding error during TV interview

NEW YORK (AP) — During his playing days, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says, he would not have volunteered to be interviewed on live television in the middle of a major league game. But he doesn't fault Los Angeles third baseman Kiké Hernández for making an error Friday night as he was speaking with broadcasters on the Apple TV+ telecast in the second inning at Yankee Stadium. Roberts says he understands in-game interviews are part of sports now, so he picks his battles and has no plans to talk to Hernández about it. He says he knows Hernández likes the limelight and social media and wants to build his brand, but Hernández prepares well and plays hard so he's OK with it.

Chet Walker, a 7-time All-Star forward who helped the 76ers win the 1967 NBA title, has died

Chet Walker, a seven-time All-Star forward who helped Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia 76ers win the 1967 NBA title and later starred for the Chicago Bulls, has died. He was 84. The National Basketball Players Association confirmed Walker's death, according to NBA.com. The 76ers, Bulls and National Basketball Retired Players Association also extended their condolences on social media. The Bulls say Walker "made a lasting impact on the sport of basketball and the city of Chicago." Walker was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Larson relieved to be granted waiver that keeps him in NASCAR playoffs

Kyle Larson was finally granted the waiver this week he needed from NASCAR to remain eligible to race for a second Cup championship. Now that the ordeal is over, Larson would prefer if the topic just went away. Larson last month became the fifth driver in history to attempt to run both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. But his quest to complete 1,100 miles was ruined by rain in both states. Because he failed to compete in the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR took more than a week to decide if it would grant Larson the waiver to remain playoff eligible.

A look at the Euro 2024 kits: one is cartoonish, others are retro. Hits or fashion faux pas?

BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgium's away kit is a tribute to a much-loved and nearly century-old cartoon character, Tintin. Croatia's shirt will not go unnoticed. Germany's home is classic white but the away shirt is a bold pink and purple. Ahead of the European soccer championships starting June 14 in Germany, The Associated Press takes a look at some of the kits that will surely catch the eyes of soccer fans and fashionistas from across the globe.
