Saturday’s 73-point road victory at Ellsworth keeps the Hutchinson Community College football team remains No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I regular-season rankings, which were releases on Monday.
Hutchinson improved to 2-0 to start the season after defeating Ellsworth 76-3 this past Saturday in Iowa Falls, Iowa. The overall Top 5 from last week all stayed as they were after all those teams won last weekend.
Iowa Western received 9 of the 10 first-place votes and had 120 points. The Blue Dragons had one first-place vote and was second with 112 points. Northwest Mississippi, Tyler and Mississippi Gulf Coast remained Nos. 3, 4 and 5.
The Blue Dragons extended their program record for the longest consecutive run in the national poll to 66 weeks. The Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the NJCAA Rankings for 60 consecutive polls and have been ranked No. 1 in 51 of the 85 polls released in the Drew Dallas era.
Hutchinson has its lone bye week of the season this weekend and will return to action to open Jayhawk Conference play at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 against No. 12 Garden City.
Butler moved up five spots to No. 8 this week. Garden City climbed two spots to No. 2. Future non-conference opponent NEO is No. 11. Coffeyville and Iowa Central are receiving votes this week.
