Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the 1500 block of East 4th on the north side.

In 1953, the Dairy Queen national franchises had already become very popular.

Jerry Stutzman of Hutchinson built a small building at 1524 E. 4th Ave. and began selling ice cream treats to compete. He named his business the Darie King. He ran this business from 1953 to 1978. The first photo shows the original business with its signage.

In 1979, he sold it to James Strawn, who owned it until at least 1998.

The only other owner I could find was Bret Welch in 2005.

The business was vacant from 2007 until 2017 when Anthony and Julie Brawner purchased the building.

Remodeling had been a complicated task but they were able to finish and opened for business in 2018. The second photo shows that at opening.

A little later it was reopened as Malty Mike's. The third photo shows that changeover.

In 2023, Amnouy and Yada Isarankura purchased the building and changed the offerings format to Thai food. The fourth photo shows the little building at 1524 E. 4th today, still owned by Amnouy and Yada with the business now known as Thai Hutch Bistro.
