Richard D. Wenger, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Newton Medical Center at the age of 73.  He was born on December 5, 1947, in Newton, Kansas, to Elton and Velma (Dirks) Wenger.  On May 19, 1967, Richard was united in marriage to Cristine Ann Wiggers.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Velma.  He is survived by his wife, Cristine of Hesston, Kansas; three sons, Clark Wenger and wife Gina of Lenexa, Kansas, Chad Wenger of Newton, Kansas, and Calvin Wenger and wife Shannon of Williamsburg, Kansas.  Richard also leaves behind one brother; four sisters; and five grandchildren.

Richard gave his heart to God at a young age and remained faithful his entire life.  He was a long-time resident of Hesston.  After being married in 1967, Richard and his wife lived in Denver, Colorado for two years before returning to Hesston.  Richard spent his career working in Hesston at the lumber yard and then the Hesston Mill, ultimately becoming part-owner and changing the name to Sunglo Feeds.  He worked briefly for a manufacturing company in Hesston, before purchasing his own over the road truck and working for a couple different companies, which allowed him to travel the United States.  In his mid-60’s, Richard retired and focused most of his attention on his greatest passions of spending time with family, and golf.  He filled the hearts of his family and friends with endless love and laughter.  The family wants to thank everyone for the cards, messages, meals, and love shown during this time of loss.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021 at West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge, Kansas, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., where there will be a time for fellowship and storytelling.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 3, at the church with burial following at Lone Tree Cemetery, Galva, Kansas.  Family and friends wishing to honor Richard are invited to make donations payable to Cristine Wenger, to go towards the grandchildren’s education in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, Kansas 67107.
