🏀 Salthawk Basketball sweeps Newton Girls and Boys

NEWTON, Kan.—Both Salthawk Basketball teams hauled out the brooms on Tuesday night and swept the Railers in both game with the Girls winning the early game 45 to 27. The Hutch High  Boys stayed undefeated with a 63 to 37 win in the night cap.

GIRLS RECAP

Hutch High got off to a slow start and actually trailed after the first quarter 9-8 and then only lead at the half 13-12 before taking over in the second half to put the Railers away with 28 second half points.

Hutchinson was led in scoring by Grace Posch with 13 points followed in double figure scoring by Josie McLean. Aliyah Green had 9 and Libby Jackson added 6.

Newton was led in scoring by Olivia Antonowich with 8 points.  The Railers were held to only one 4th quarter field goal and 4 free throws.

The Salthawk Girls travel to Salina to take on Salina South on Friday night as all the teams in the AVCT League start the 2nd half of their league season.

BOYS RECAP

A confident group of Salthawks Boys Basketball players continue to march through the season with another dominate win Friday night in Newton winning 63 to 37.

Hutch let Newton hang around early before exploding to lead 17 to 11 after one quarter and holding newton to only 1 3 point basket in the second quarter to go up 35-14 at the half.

Hutch allowed Newton to rally in the 3rd, but not by much as the Salthawks cleared to bench early and cruised home.  

It was the Salthawks 2nd double digit win over Newton after defeating them in the Dodge City Tournament of Champions in the opening round 2 weeks ago 53 to 25.

Hutchinson (13-0) travel to Salina South (1-12) on Friday night for another road test before being back home again next Tuesday.
