
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College remained No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I football rankings released Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons (2-0) held their spot following their lone bye week of the season. Hutchinson received one first-place vote and 112 points in the Week 3 poll.
Iowa Western remained the unanimous leader outside of Hutchinson’s lone first-place vote, receiving nine first-place votes and 120 points.
Hutchinson returns to action Saturday when it opens Jayhawk Conference play against Garden City (1-2) at Gowans Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Blue Dragons last played Aug. 29, rolling to a 76-3 victory over Ellsworth in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Hutchinson has outscored its first two opponents 135-10 this season after opening the year with a 59-7 victory over Cisco College.
Tyler moved up one spot to No. 3, while Mississippi Gulf Coast climbed to No. 4 and Snow College moved into the top five at No. 5. Northwest Mississippi dropped three spots to No. 6.
Hutchinson extended its program-record streak to 67 consecutive appearances in the national poll. The Blue Dragons have also been ranked among the top three for 61 consecutive polls.
Three other Jayhawk Conference teams were included in the Top 15.
Butler fell four spots from No. 8 to No. 12, while Iowa Central entered the rankings at No. 14 and Coffeyville moved into the poll at No. 15. Dodge City received two votes.
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, which Hutchinson will face later this season in nonconference play, moved up one spot to No. 10.
