Earth Matters has installed new signage at their electronic waste drop-off location to make it easier for residents to find the site and properly dispose of unwanted electronics.
The e-waste drop-off is located just north of Second Avenue and Washington Street on the west side of Washington. Residents should turn into the gravel lot, where the new signs identify the collection area.
The drop-off site is open 24 hours a day according to Earth Matters.
Earth Matters says the site accepts most electronic waste, generally defined as items containing a cord or battery. The drop-off provides residents with an option for disposing of unwanted electronics rather than placing them in regular household trash.
There are some exceptions. Smoke detectors are not accepted at the e-waste site. Older tube-style televisions and computer monitors, also known as CRT devices, are also excluded from the collection program.
Those items should instead be taken to the Reno County Landfill for proper disposal.
The new signage is intended to eliminate confusion about the location of the e-waste collection point and reassure residents that they have reached the correct drop-off area.
Residents using the site should look for the signs after entering the gravel lot from Washington Street.
