Hutch firefighters to take AEMT course

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Fire Department is excited to announce that five of our dedicated staff members will be advancing their skills through an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course offered by Hutchinson Community College. This training marks a significant step forward in enhancing the medical capabilities of our team.

Captain Raya, Engineer Arheart, Engineer Ice, Engineer Richardson, and Engineer K. Graves will be participating in this comprehensive AEMT program, transitioning from their current EMT certification to the advanced AEMT level. Upon certification, they will be equipped to provide a range of advanced medical interventions, including:

• Intravenous Therapy (IV)

• Interosseous Access (IO)

• Administration of Specific IV Medications

• Administration of First-Line Cardiac Arrest Medications

• Reading a 4-Lead ECG (Electrocardiogram)

These advanced skills will enable our staff to deliver crucial treatment to citizens before the arrival of EMS and enhance their ability to assist with ongoing patient care. This initiative represents the first time the Hutchinson Fire Department has put a group of firefighters through this program, reflecting our commitment to providing the highest standard of care to our community.
