HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Police and fire crews responded just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to a reported shooting at 912 West 19th in Hutchinson. While on their way, units were notified that on scene police were reporting the house was on fire.

A first alarm structure fire response was then dispatched. First arriving crews found smoke coming from the front door. HPD officers were assisting an occupant out of a bedroom window. Due to the initial call being a shooting, fire crews staged until PD units determined it was safe to approach the house.

Fire crews then found fire in the living room and with an aggressive attack were able to contain the fire to the single room. The occupant was taken by Reno County EMS to the hospital for evaluation.

Preliminary investigation shows this was an intentionally set fire.

The fire remains under investigation by Hutchinson Fire Department investigators and Hutchinson Police Department detectives until all parties involved can be interviewed.
