
WICHITA, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs continued their dominant run through pool play at the 91st annual NBC World Series with a 10-0 shutout victory over the Dodge City A’s Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium.
Right-hander Bradyn McClure turned in a stellar performance on the mound for the Monarchs (29-7), tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out seven and issuing no walks.
Hutchinson broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning. Joey Senstock laced an RBI double down the left-field line, and Dylan Bell followed with a single to center to make it 2-0.
The Monarchs pulled away with consistent offense throughout the afternoon, collecting 12 hits as a team. Jake Gutierrez drove in a team-high three runs, going 1-for-3. Drew Bugner led the Monarchs at the plate, finishing 3-for-3. Jake Knox, Tyson Vassart, and Jaden Gustafson each had multi-hit games.
Knox also anchored a flawless defensive effort with a team-high eight putouts as Hutchinson did not commit an error.
Copper Tannehill took the loss for Dodge City, giving up five runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking three.
Matt Perez recorded the only hit of the day for the A’s, who also played error-free baseball. Kayne Carlos led Dodge City defensively with six assists.
With the win, Hutchinson improves to 2-0 in pool play and will face the Seattle Cheney Studs to wrap up pool play at 6pm on Monday in their next matchup at Eck Stadium. The top three teams in pool play enter a single elimination Tournament later in the week.
