The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team plays its 200th all-time Region 6 Tournament game on Saturday.
The milestone game takes place on the road in Arkansas City as the 11th-seeded Blue Dragons (14-16) travel to play the No. 6-seed Cowley Tigers (18-12) in the Region 6 Tournament opening round at Scott Auditorium.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live for free on the Cowley Sports Network at 3:45 p.m.
The Blue Dragons play in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament for the first time since 2023. The Blue Dragons are 42-9 all-time in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament.
Saturday's meeting will be the 22nd all-time postseason matchup between Hutchinson and Cowley. The Blue Dragons own a 12-9 all-time lead against Cowley in the postseason.
The last postseason meeting came in 2024 in the Region 6 semifinals at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons defeated Cowley 89-83. The last time Hutchinson played a Region 6 Tournament game in Arkansas City was 2005. The Tigers defeated the Blue Dragons 84-81 in overtime.
Hutchinson dropped a pair of close games with Cowley this season.
With Cowley ranked No. 12 on December 6, the Blue Dragons were defeated by the Tigers, 65-53. Then on February 7, the Dragons dropped a 63-60 decision to Cowley in Arkansas City.
The Hutchinson-Cowley winner will travel to play No. 3-seed Dodge City on Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons enter the postseason winning 3 of their final 4 games. Hutchinson nearly rallied from 16 points down at Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday in a 75-74 loss to the Tigers. Dilen Miller came off the bench to spark the Blue Dragons with a career-high 25 points. He scored 19 points in the first half, hitting a career-best five 3-pointers. The Blue Dragons hit 11 3-pointers overall.
Cowley, which started the year 10-2 and was ranked as high as No. 8 in the NJCAA Rankings, finished the season 8-10 and has lost two straight games to close the regular season.
