WICHITA, Kan. —Tulsa Sandlot jumped on the Hutchinson Monarchs early in the first inning early Sunday morning by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first and eventually winning 7-6 in the second pool play game of the 90th annual NBC Tournament at Wichita State University,
Hutch fought back to regain the lead in the top of the sixth with a two RBI double by Sam Wiese and a fielder's choice to allow Wiese to score from third base to give the Monarchs the lead 6-5.
That lead lasted only one inning as Tulsa Sandlot took advantage of two Monarchs errors to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 7-6.
Tulsa's Duncan Bowles come on in relief in the top of the ninth to shut down the Monarchs to give Tulsa the win.
Hutchinson is now 1-1 in pool play and will take on the Seattle Cheney Studs (2-0) on Monday night at 8 p.m. to wrap up pool play.
