NEWTON, Kan. — According to a Friday update from the City of Newton, the contractor is working on the base for the second new water storage tank on West First Street.
The original 3.8 million-gallon tank, which was built in 1939, was torn down and the second 1.9 million gallon tank is being built in its place.
The first tank was finished at year end in 2023 and filled in early 2024.
This will allow in the future for one tank to be taken down for maintenance and still leave the community with a steady water supply.
