HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs game against the Newton Sluggin' Rebels on Thursday night at Hobart-Detter will not be played due to unplayable field conditions. The announcement came on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. after the grounds crew has been working on the field all day to get it playable, but the rains Wednesday morning were too much.
According to Monarchs owner/GM Marc Blackim, the grounds crew used 25 bags of diamond dry on the field, but it still was not enough to make the field safe to play on.
The postponement on Thursday marks the fifth time this summer that the Monarchs have had a game at Hobart-Detter postponed or moved due to unplayable field conditions. There is currently a proposal in the 2024 budget to turf Hobart-Detter Field.
The Monarchs are scheduled to travel to Newton to play the Sluggin' Rebels on Friday night at 7 p.m. The game from Thursday is scheduled to be made up at a later date.
