
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson firefighters worked three separate brush fire calls on Saturday, a 40-acre brush fire in the 8600 block of East 4th, an assist to Reno County Fire District 3 at Dean Road and 17th and in the 2200 block of Mayfield Road east of Hutchinson.
They also were sent out for mutual aid on a Rice County grass fire that flared up Sunday evening.
No injuries or structural damage were reported in any of the Reno County fires.
The National Weather Service is advising that conditions are still conducive to the spread of any fires that develop early this week.
According to Monday morning's Hazardous Weather Outlook, the Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the Very High category on Monday for much of central and southern Kansas. Outdoor burning is discouraged.
Strong south winds are likely Tuesday, followed by strong northwest winds Wednesday. On both days, gusts of 40 mph, or greater, will be possible.
The strong south winds will elevate the Grassland Fire Danger Index into the Very High category on Tuesday for parts of central Kansas.
