LAWRENCE, Kan. — After recording her first career double-double in Kansas' 70-60 victory over Wichita State last Thursday, Jayhawk forward Regan Williams has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Williams set new career highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds as she recorded her first double-double as a Jayhawk, and the first by a Kansas player since the end of last season. She was 4-of-7 from the field and hit 5-of-9 free throws, while pulling down a career-best five offensive rebounds and six defensive boards in the win. Williams added one steal and one blocked shot in 31 minutes of action.
For the year, Williams is averaging 6.2 points and a team-leading 5.7 rebounds per game. She has started all nine games and played at least 15 minutes in each, and she's shooting a team-leading 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the field. Williams also leads the Jayhawks with five blocked shots this season.
From Kansas City, Missouri, Williams picks up her first career Big 12 weekly honor, while becoming the eighth Kansas player to be receive a Big 12 Freshman of the Week award. Williams is the first Jayhawk to earn the recognition since teammate S'Mya Nichols was named the recipient for the second time last season on Jan. 15, 2024.
Williams' performance helped the Jayhawks win their fourth-consecutive game and improve to 8-1 on the year. Kansas returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 11, hosting Kansas City at Allen Fieldhouse for a game that will tip off at 6 p.m.
