Nancy M. (Whalen) Sherman was born in Hutchinson, KS on August 16, 1938 and died December 13, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
She was the daughter of Jane Anna Butler and Edward Joseph Whalen. Nancy graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Junior College. She attended the University of Kansas before her marriage to Charles Thomas “Tom” Sherman on August 6, 1959. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1991. She worked in the records office at Hutchinson Community College for many years and was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Hutchinson. Nancy moved to Wichita in September of 2011 and resided at Via Christi Village Ridge until her death. She enjoyed following her grandchildren in their school and sports activities. She was a die hard KU fan. She enjoyed traveling, with her favorite destination being Hawaii.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, brother Tim Whalen, and sister Mary Lou Griffin. Survivors include daughters Susan Reazin (Keith) of Wichita, Betsy Sherman of Falls Church, VA, grandchildren Erin, Sean, Caitlin, and Connor Reazin, sister Jane Miller and brother Pat Whalen of Hutchinson, and sister Anne Whalen (Don Goertz) of Joplin, MO. Private family service was held at Lumen Christi Chapel at Via Christi Village Ridge and burial took place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson. Memorials have been established with National Jewish Health Center, P.O. Box 17169, Denver, CO 80217-0169 and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School Fine Arts Department, 8101 W. Central Ave., Wichita, KS 67212.
