Sheriff: Search continues for missing swimmer at Cheney Lake

RENO COUNTY —As of noon Sunday there had been no new information on the missing swimmer at Cheney Lake, according to the Reno County Sheriff's Department.

Several Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Units are working the area both on water and by land (shoreline). Also some of the area is being searched by air.

RENO COUNTY — A man who is thought to have drowned at Cheney Lake Saturday afternoon has not yet been found.

According to a release from the Reno County Sheriff's Office, Wildlife and Parks officers were called at 3:39 p.m. Saturday to the area of M & M Point at Cheney State Lake for a swimmer in the water who could not be located.

Deputies and members from Cheney Fire, Sedgwick County Rescue, Haven EMS, Haven PD, District 9, and South Hutchinson PD all responded to help with the search.

The plan is to reconvene in the morning to continue the search, but the name of the potential victim is not being released.
