BURRTON, Kan. — Railroad tracks and roads are open again in Rural Harvey County after yesterday’s accident involving a BNSF freight train and a farm tractor.

According to BNSF Spokesperson Amy Casas, the track was opened again early this morning. Casas said the train was hauling mixed freight when it hit the tractor around 3:48 p.m. four miles east of Burrton. The impact killed 21-year-old Taylor Koehn of Halstead and knocked the two lead locomotives of the train off the rails. Casas says they will continue the investigation into the accident. The lead locomotive was equipped with an event recorder and camera.  Koehn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amtrak stopped the Southwest Chief at Newton going west and Hutchinson going east while the track was repaired before they continued on early this morning after about a four hour delay.
