HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson said the Woodie Seat Phase II project is nearing completion, with most major construction work finished and the remaining bridge repairs on Avenue C expected to keep the project on schedule for completion in June.

City staff provided the update during Tuesday night’s Hutchinson City Council meeting.

According to the city, contractor Kansas Concrete has completed all major contract items for the Woodie Seat Phase II project except final pavement markings on the approach pavement and the Avenue C bridge, which remains under construction.

City officials said the overall project is approaching 100% completion. Crews are also monitoring grass establishment, and the city will move toward formal acceptance of the project once 70% coverage is achieved.

One portion of the project still under review is the east alley between Avenue B and Avenue C. The city’s engineering department is continuing to address grading concerns and long-term maintenance issues involving the berm slope in that area.

The project’s original substantial completion date of Jan. 31 was extended because of weather delays and additional work added through change orders. The revised substantial completion date was March 27.

City officials said substantial completion means the project’s major components are finished, with only minor work and cleanup remaining. Final completion, including cleanup activities, is scheduled for one month after the revised substantial completion date.

The separate Avenue C bridge project is about 77.5% complete, according to the city. Contractors are finishing major repairs, including full-depth replacement of the median and both bridge edges.

Once the concrete has cured, the bridge deck will receive a 2.25-inch Portland cement concrete overlay.

City officials said the overall project remains on track for completion in June.
