SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Wichita Wind Surge closed their six-game series against Springfield with a 9-2 loss Sunday night at Route 66 Stadium.
The Cardinals hit four home runs and held Wichita to three hits while winning five of the six games in the series.
Caden Kendle and Jaime Ferrer provided the Wind Surge’s only runs with solo homers in the fourth inning. Kendle hit his second Double-A home run, while Ferrer added his fifth of the season.
Springfield led 3-0 before the back-to-back Wichita homers cut the deficit to one. The Cardinals answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth and added four more runs over the final three innings.
Marek Houston extended his on-base streak to 26 games, though his 12-game hitting streak ended. Kendle pushed his on-base streak to 19 games, and Andrew Cossetti extended his to 15.
Jaylen Nowlin worked a scoreless relief appearance, his 15th of the season.
Wichita opens a six-game series at Northwest Arkansas at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
