HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson will hold a community open house Aug. 12 as it develops zoning regulations for potential data center projects.
The open house is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hutchinson Fire Department Command and Training Center, 3201 E. Fourth Ave. Residents may attend at any time during the event.
Information stations will explain how data centers operate, the city’s regulatory process and issues that could be addressed through future zoning rules. Attendees will also be able to ask questions and provide feedback.
City officials said data centers can create land-use, infrastructure and operational concerns that differ from traditional commercial and industrial developments. The city is working to establish standards and a review process before any future projects are proposed.
No regulations will be considered for approval during the open house. Feedback gathered at the meeting will be reviewed by city staff and used as draft regulations are developed.
