SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A planned safety and revitalization project along Main Street in South Hutchinson has been selected for funding through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program.

The City of South Hutchinson’s Main Street Corridor Safety & Revitalization Project is one of nine transportation construction projects statewide selected for the spring 2026 funding cycle.

Gov. Laura Kelly and Kansas Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed announced Tuesday that KDOT will provide a combined $5.9 million for the nine projects. Local communities will contribute more than $3.7 million in matching funds, bringing the total investment to more than $9.6 million.

The amount awarded specifically to the South Hutchinson project was not immediately provided.

“Through smart and targeted investments that leverage state and local funds, we’re continuing to make needed transportation improvements in every corner of the state,” Kelly said. “The Cost Share Program is essential to making our communities safer, stronger, and more accessible for all.”

KDOT said the Cost Share Program is designed to help communities complete projects that improve safety, support economic development, ease congestion and improve transportation access.

The program can provide funding for a wide range of projects, including highways, local streets, bridges, railroads, airports, bicycle and pedestrian improvements and public transit projects. Local communities are required to provide at least a 15% cash match, while KDOT funding can be used only for construction costs.

“Kansas communities understand their transportation needs best and the Cost Share Program provides opportunities to help address those needs,” Reed said. “KDOT continues to be committed to working with communities to help deliver these important, locally driven projects.”

The Cost Share Program is part of the state’s 10-year Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program. Since the program began in fall 2019, KDOT has awarded nearly $170 million for 216 projects statewide, with communities contributing an additional $135 million in local matching funds.

Other spring 2026 recipients include Garden Plain, Leavenworth, Oberlin, Paola, Haskell County, Lincoln County, Marion County and Riley County.
