Newton residents will once again have opportunities to connect directly with city leaders as City Desk returns for 2026, bringing informal, face-to-face conversations to locations across the community during the first half of the year.

City Desk is designed to give residents a relaxed setting to visit one-on-one with City Commissioners and city staff, ask questions, share feedback, or simply stop by to say hello. The series emphasizes accessibility, transparency, and meaningful engagement by meeting residents where they already are—out in the community.

The 2026 City Desk schedule begins Friday, January 16, with the first stop at the Newton Public Library, located at 223 E. 7th Street, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Additional City Desk events planned for the first half of the year include:

  1. Thur., Feb. 26 — 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. — Norm’s Coffee Bar, 613 N. Main Street
  2. Sat., Mar. 28 - 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. — Prairy, 601 N. Main Street
  3. Fri., April 24 — 5 to 6 p.m. — Centennial Park, between the varsity fields during Newton Public Schools home baseball and softball games
  4. May — Private event, Newton (details forthcoming)
  5. Wed., June 17 — 7 to 8 a.m. — Druber’s Donut Shop, 116 W. 6th Street

City officials encourage residents to attend any session that fits their schedule, noting that questions are always welcome and no formal agenda is required. The goal is simple: build relationships, hear directly from the community, and strengthen connections between residents and City Hall.
