Margaret Ruth Warren, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Cedars House, three days before her 90th birthday.

Margaret was born in Tipton, on March 2, 1932, to Mabel (Parnell) and James Henry Houghton.

Margaret attended the Beloit grade school and graduated from Beloit High School, Beloit, KS in 1950. She then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, where she found her second home at Clovia House.

Margaret Ruth Houghton was united in marriage to James Bryan Warren on August 12, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Beloit. They established their first home together in Manhattan where they finished their education at Kansas State University. In the years that followed, the couple lived throughout Kansas including the towns of Garnett, Centerville, Gardner, Kansas City, Glen Elder and Nortonville. They then moved to Galva and have resided there since 1973.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, McPherson, where she was an active member of Mariners.

Margaret was a homemaker and worked for Farmers State Bank as Teller and then as Vice-President. She retired after 30 years. Most of all, Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She supported her family above all else. In the early years, her growing family relished her steady stream of mashed potatoes and her unlimited supply of chocolate chip cookies. In her later years, Margaret enjoyed baking her favorite yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

She is survived by her loving and caring husband of over 70 years, James “J.B.” Warren of Galva; her children: Bryan Warren and wife Penny of Omaha, Nebraska; Jeff Warren and wife Crystal of McPherson; Elaine Clark and husband Harry of Topeka; Greg Warren and wife Chantel of McPherson; and Tamara “Tammy” Curtright and husband Doug of McPherson; her brother-in-law Dale Gillan of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Clifford Houghton; sisters, Florence Anderson and Lois Gillan; and a grandson, Jacob Warren.

Her memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Barkett and Reverend Dr. Donald F. Owens officiating. A private family burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
