HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County was able to get grant funds for a new ballot scanner that was approved by the county commission last week.
"We get $33,537," said county clerk Donna Patton.
The funds started in the hands of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan. They donated $250 million to the Center For Tech and Civic Life.
"We've went ahead and ordered it," Patton said. "We're going to need it for the future. We still have one. It's just not as fast as this one. They're going to do what they can but they won't be able to get to us for this next election."
Congress had allocated $400 million as of September 1 for election administration.
