Edward S. Cox, 88, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.
Ed was born May 30, 1933, in Aline, OK, the son of Ralph E. and Olive G. (Morgan) Cox. He graduated from Abbyville High School in 1951. He graduated from Pittsburg State and Tulsa Engineering where he received his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Ed was a Civil Engineer contractor. On September 29, 1959, he married Patricia McGuire in Hutchinson. They later divorced. On September 1, 1961, he married Mary Jolene Quimby in Tulsa, OK. She died on December 24, 2018.
During his long career as a civil engineer, Ed supervised the construction of many large buildings in Kentucky and Texas, including work on the USAA Home Office Building in San Antonio, which was at one time the largest office building complex in the US. He made his home in San Antonio for the last several decades, where they were active members of the St Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in their neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; step-daughter, Cheryl Watson; granddaughter, Kasha Horvath and great-great granddaughter, Rachel Townsend.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Randi (Jon Larson) Jandt; brother, John Cox; sister, Helen G. Cox; granddaughter, Kim Scott; five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandchild due in March.
There will be no public visitation as cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Reno County and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson, KS 67502.
