HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County has released annual water quality reports for two public water supply systems, providing customers with information about testing conducted during the 2025 calendar year.

The Consumer Confidence Reports are available for Reno County Rural Water District 101 and Reno County Water District 8. Federal and state regulations require community public water systems to provide customers with an annual report outlining the source and quality of their drinking water.

The Rural Water District 101 report lists a nitrate reading of 12 parts per million from a Dec. 10, 2025, sample. The maximum contaminant level listed in the report is 10 parts per million.

The report includes required health information stating that infants younger than 6 months who drink water containing nitrate above the maximum contaminant level could become seriously ill and, if untreated, may die. Symptoms can include shortness of breath and blue baby syndrome.

The report does not state whether additional testing or corrective action occurred after the sample was collected. It states that there are no additional required health effects violation notices.

Rural Water District 101 receives groundwater through a connection with Reno County Rural Water District 3 and also lists an emergency well as a water source.

The Water District 8 report lists a nitrate reading of 2.3 parts per million from a June 2, 2025, sample, below the maximum contaminant level of 10 parts per million. The district receives groundwater from three wells.

Both reports include results for regulated contaminants and information about lead and copper monitoring. The reports state that the presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk.

Customers who would like a paper copy of either report may contact the Reno County Public Works Utilities Division at 620-694-2976 or email publicworks@renocountyks.gov.
