Melvin D. “Mel” Becker, 83, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1937 in Goessel, the son of Harry H. and Frances (Becker) Becker.
He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1957.
Mel was united in marriage to Katherine “Kathi” Koehn on April 6, 1958 in Montezuma, Kansas. Mel and Kathi had two years of voluntary service at Rancho Los Amigos in Downey, California. She survives of their home.
He was a member of West Zion Mennonite Church, where he served as Deacon and an usher.
Mel was a farm equipment mechanic. He was employed at Goering Hardware in Moundridge for 20 plus years. He had previously worked for Idaho Timber in Halstead, Bradbury in Moundridge, and Unruh- Foster John Deere dealership in Montezuma.
He is also survived by his three sons, Kyle Becker of McPherson, Kurt Becker of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Ken (Denise) Becker of Lincoln, Nebraska; and two grandchildren, Isaiah Becker of Omaha, Nebraska, and Brogan Becker and fiancé, Jay Dunn-Wall of Philomath, Oregon.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Becker; and infant sister, Lois Becker.
Private family services will be held at West Zion Mennonite Church. Services will be livestreamed at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at www.facebook.com/westzion. Burial will follow at West Zion Cemetery, Moundridge. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, January 15, at Moundridge Funeral Home. The family will not be present.
