Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the 400 block of North Main on the east side.
Ferdinand Haberkorn came to America from Germany in 1892 at the age of 15, amazingly, all by himself.
After graduating from the Chicago Conservatory of Music, he married a local girl in 1911 and moved here. He was the piano teacher at Hutchinson High School from 1915 to 1919.
In 1917, he leased the top floor of the new Woodson Building above O'Donnell Hardware at 416 N. Main St. and started the Haberkorn School of Music. He also organized the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra. The first photo shows the music school in 1917.

In 1923, Jackson's Ice Cream resided at 416 N. Main.
Later, the Christian Science Reading Room was next door at 414 N. Main. The second photo shows those neighbors in the early 1950s.

David Allen owned the building from 1967 to 2012 and housed Hutch Vending there.
In 2013, Greg and Carlye Fast purchased the building and remodeled the upper floor, very tastefully, to be their home loft. The third photo shows that after remodeling.

The fourth photo shows the 416 N. Main "Fast Bldg." today, still owned by the Fasts with Lit Studios occupying the ground floor.
