LEXINGTON, Ky. — JHX Hoops’ deepest run in The Basketball Tournament ended Wednesday night with a 78-65 loss to La Familia in the alumni bracket championship at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The Kansas alumni team struggled offensively after arriving in Lexington early Wednesday following an overnight drive. JHX shot 30% from the field and made just 5 of 29 attempts from 3-point range.
La Familia took control with a dominant third quarter, holding JHX to 1-for-15 shooting while building a 58-37 lead.
Billy Preston led JHX with 15 points and nine rebounds. Archie Goodwin scored 28 points for the Kentucky alumni, who advanced to Sunday’s $2 million championship game.
JHX trailed 37-30 at halftime but missed its first nine shots of the second half. La Familia stretched the lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter and carried a 69-53 advantage into the Elam Ending.
JHX made a late push behind Preston and Zeke Mayo, cutting the deficit to 76-65 before Goodwin hit the game-winning baseline jumper.
The Kansas alumni finished the tournament 3-2 and improved their all-time TBT record to 9-5.
