Starting a season 6-0 for the eighth time in program history, the Hutchinson Community College football team maintained its hold on the No. 1 spot in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, which were released on Monday.
The top-ranked Blue Dragons defeated then-No. 11 Dodge City 46-10 on Saturday at Gowans Stadium to take sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutchinson has a bye week this Saturday and will play host to Garden City on Saturday, October 21 at Gowans Stadium.
For the sixth-straight week, the Blue Dragons received 9 of 10 first-place votes and leads No. 2 Iowa Western 149-141. Iowa Western defeated then-No. 5 Snow 20-13 on Saturday in Ephraim, Utah.
No. 3 Iowa Central rallied to defeat Coffeyville last weekend in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Mississippi Golf Coast is No. 4 and Kilgore is now. No. 5
Hutchinson and Butler are the only Jayhawk Conference teams ranked this week. Butler is No. 12 in the poll. Dodge City is receiving votes.
The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 24 consecutive ranking periods.
There are four unbeaten teams remaining in NJCAA Division I Football – Hutchinson (6-0), Iowa Western (7-0), Mississippi Gulf Coast (5-0) and Northeast Mississippi (5-0).
