SEDGWICK COUNTY —The Kansas Highway Patrol knows distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes. There are many types of distracted driving, but using a cell phone or other device is one of highest and dangerous distractions in your vehicle.

"Taking your eyes off the roadway makes you more likely to crash, or to have someone crash into you."  Kansas Trooper Steve Morris was on patrol in Troop F, a portion of 13 counties in south central Kansas, when the distracted driver shown in the dash cam video drove directly into his lane."

Trooper Morris knows the dangers of distracted driving, so he was alert and ready to react.

He drove to the grass shoulder as the other vehicle drove completely into his lane. As the vehicle passed, Trooper Morris saw that a cell phone was the distraction. Being alert and ready to react prevented a head-on collision with a distracted driver.
