🏈 Salley Jr. scores thrice in road victory

FORT DODGE, Iowa — Derrick Salley Jr. had three touchdown catches Saturday — one for each prong on King Triton's trident.

No. 1 Hutchinson (3-0) was tied at 14 with No. 9 Iowa Central (2-1) with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter before the Dragons ended the game on a 21-3 run.

The Tritons used a 14-play, 75-yard drive to tie the game late in the third quarter on a Damarcus Creecy 13-yard run.

Hutchinson answered the score with Salley's second touchdown of the day.

Salley Jr. caught a 10-yard pass from Christian Johnson to put the Dragons back up seven.

Salley Jr. caught his first touchdown of the day on a 44-yard bomb from Johnson.

The Dragons built an early 14-0 lead with the Salley Jr. touchdown and a 76-yard pick-six from D.J. Jester.

The Tritons answered with a 98-yard kickoff return for a score by Marcellus Chandler.

After Salley's second touchdown, the Tritons got a field goal from Anderson Trejo. His 36-yard field goal made it 21-17.

Salley Jr. was not done. He caught a third touchdown pass from Johnson, this time from 29 yards out.

The Dragon defense blocked a second kick of the day before Lekedrin Harvey iced the game with an 80-yard touchdown run.

Harvey's run came after Darius Wiley blocked a Trejo field goal.

Jlynn Allen blocked a Trejo attempt earlier in the game.

Wiley finished the game with 11 tackles, two sacks and five tackles for loss.

Salley Jr. finished with eight catches for 146 yards and three scores.

Johnson went 17-for-25 for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

The Dragons intercepted Creecy twice. Jester had the first pick of the day and M.J. Graham added his fourth interception of the season.

The Dragons have a bye week before returning to Iowa on Oct. 4 to face Ellsworth.
