
Hutchinson CC Sports Information
Already in the first two Jayhawk Conference games played this season, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team has played the Nos. 1 and 2 highest-scoring teams in the league.
Tuesday night the Blue Dragons take on the fourth-highest scoring offense in the KJCCC when Hutchinson (6-2, 1-1 KJCCC) travels to play the Independence Pirates (3-4, 1-1 KJCCC) at 7:30 p.m. at the Oakes Family Fieldhouse.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) calling the action. The game will be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:15 p.m.
The Blue Dragons come off a huge high when Bobby Cannon hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation to lead Hutchinson to a come-from-behind 83-82 win on Saturday at Butler. The Dragons trailed by 11 points with 5:03 remaining in the game.
Daleron Thomas came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points to lead Hutchinson. Kyrell Shaw scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half.
The Dragons rank fifth in the KJCCC in scoring defense at 71.5 points per game allowed. Opponent are shooting 36.7 percent against Hutchinson this season.
The Blue Dragon defense has been tested mightily in their first two conference games. Hutchinson held Garden City 29 points under its 113.5 point scoring average. Then on Saturday, the Dragons held Butler 25 points under its 107.2 point scoring average.
Hutchinson now faces Independence and it's 90.6 point-per-game average. The Pirates lead the lead in shooting at 49.9 percent. Sophomore David Wilson is the third-leading scorer in the KJCCC averaging 20.7 points per game.
Independence won its conference opener against Colby last Wednesday 102-87, but dropped a 99-76 decision at No. 3 Coffeyville on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons look to snap a two-game losing streak to the Pirates, who defeated Hutchinson 103-97 and 104-84 last season.
Tuesday's game will be the 83rd all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Independence. The Dragons lead the series 57-25, including 16-11 in games played in Independence.
