HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 19-year-old Hutchinson man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and seven additional counts in connection with an alleged violent crime spree last week involving multiple residences in a northwest Hutchinson neighborhood.
Reno County District Attorney Tom Stanton filed charges Tuesday against Teyton Thaddeus Savage-Dobbins in Reno County District Court.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Friday.
Savage-Dobbins is charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated residential burglary, one count of nonresidential burglary, two felony counts of criminal damage to property and two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property.
According to the complaint, Savage-Dobbins is accused of intentionally and with premeditation attempting to kill a woman on June 2.
The attempted first-degree murder charge is a level 1 person felony.
The complaint alleges Savage-Dobbins entered an occupied residence in the 700 block of West Fourth Avenue with the intent to commit first-degree murder.
He is also accused of entering an occupied residence in the 1400 block of North Prairie Street with the intent to commit a crime of domestic violence and/or first-degree murder.
Hutchinson Police said officers were initially dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. June 2 to the 1400 block of North Prairie Street for a report of a person attempting to force entry into an occupied residence with an ax.
Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived. Savage-Dobbins was taken into custody shortly after 2:15 a.m. behind a residence in the 700 block of West 13th Avenue.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of West 14th Avenue, where police said a woman was found suffering from life-threatening injuries believed to have been caused by an edged weapon. She was transported to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
The additional charges involve an alleged burglary of a detached garage in the 500 block of West 12th Avenue and damage to multiple properties, including two residences, a vehicle, a porch light and a camper.
Police said residents in the area reported additional crimes throughout the day June 2 and Savage-Dobbins was identified as the suspect.
The state is requesting that any resulting conviction be designated as a domestic violence offense.
